Breaking into New Forms: Uranus in Gemini 2025

We experienced our 4th(!!!) major planetary sign change of 2025 yesterday. Uranus is now in Gemini.

Considering that in a given calendar year we might just have one slow-moving planet changing sign, this is major stuff astrologically speaking. But, this is only a preview. Like Neptune and Saturn, Uranus will retrograde back into the preceding sign before committing to the sign change, indicating that collectively, we are between world orders in a sense. We're living on the threshold of an incredible amount of new perspectives, experiences, and possibilities this year and into 2026.

Among other things, with Uranus, we can expect collective breakthroughs and breakdowns in areas associated with Gemini. Things like retail, social and information networks, tech and communications writ large, language, data, youth culture, and urban design. Any place or situation where information is encountered and exchanged will be impacted by this shift. The norms, policies, and practices surrounding these things change during this 7-year cycle.

No matter which sign it is in, the instinct of Uranus is toward radical, sudden change. What feels distinct about Uranus in Gemini is that Gemini is arguably the least moderate of the mutable signs (as an air sign Gemini is inclined toward dynamic action, ruled by fast-moving Mercury.) We can expect this transit to bring with it actions and activities that incline toward movement, at the expense of taking a measured approach. As one of four human signs of the Zodiac (indicated by the emblem of the Twins), we know that this particular transit will have an outsized impact on the realm of human perspectives, cultures, and relationships.
With Uranus, I don’t think trying to hold on to the old system or approach works. I think leaning into the breaks and shifts helps. Adapting sooner rather than later is a better strategy.

As a person living in the United States, I would like to note that Uranus in Gemini is historically associated with major wars in this country and, due to its imperial influence, the world. The most recent being World War II. While we are already experiencing endless war, I expect there will be even more aggressive and dire challenges ahead in this regard. As I've mentioned two of the major industries impacted by Uranus in Gemini are technology and communications. We know that most technological breakthroughs and advances are catalyzed and funded in the context of nations attempting to achieve strategic advantages over their perceived enemies. We can anticipate warmongering powers may move in this direction during this cycle even as we make our individual and collective attempts to subvert those actions. People who oppose war have historically co-opted, interrupted, and reimagined wartime tech developments toward uses that enable or protect life, connections, and communities.

Many people are already distressed and worried about violence to come and violence that's already here.

If, as author Saidiya Hartman once said, “Care is the antidote to violence,” then we can embrace this transit by adopting a new attitude toward care in our personal networks.

By paying attention to the people around us, within our networks, and observing how things work as they do we are tapping into a Mercurial principle for which the sign of Gemini is well-known. As Uranus makes its way through, our local networks, how we rely on them, how we communicate with them, and the stakes of any schisms or ruptures within them all matter even more now.

There will always be big unknowns to fear. For now, what I see the symbolism pointing to is a need for focus, even as external forces make focus more difficult because we will be dealing with more frenetic, disjointed, and urgent energies during this transit. When circumstances or the sheer number of moving parts in the immediate environment threatens to jerk our attention away, we will need to work harder to apply focus. Gemini is an environment that thrives on the assembling of information, options, and inputs and that is where the energy of focus serves best. Because we can expect many, many viable paths to emerge but not all will be advantageous.

One way we can reach out to others in our networks is to ask more pointed questions. We can ask these questions directly of each other as we sort through the onslaught of information, as we attempt to understand our options, whether a source is trustworthy, or whether we need to leave it alone until more information can be gathered. And when all the data starts to get overwhelming (and it will!), maybe we just focus on small and steady actions that keep us connected with others in ways that enhance our flexibility. Things like (re)committing people’s phone numbers to memory….

The great thing about Uranus being at 0º of sign is we have plenty of time to respond and shape this period into what we want or need it to be. Here's my longlist of some Uranus in Gemini possibilities I hope to see emerge over the next seven years:

Uranus and Your Birth Chart

If you have one of the visible planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) in Gemini or if Gemini rules an angular house (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th), you can expect to be personally involved (or implicated) in this new zeitgeist in some way. Personal involvement extends to those with important planets or placements in other mutable signs who will experience a hard aspect (opposition or square) to major placements in Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. The more of these indicators you have, the more impactful this cycle will be. On a personal level during a Uranus transit, you may want to continuously assess your capacity for revision and resistance in a given moment. Remember that capacity is itself changeable. This matters when you're adapting to a long-term planetary influence.

Below are some ways you might personally experience Uranus moving through Gemini based on your rising sign or which house(s) of your chart contains the degrees of Gemini. (Note: Consider which house Uranus sits in in your birth chart because it tends to carry with it those significations as it moves into other areas of the chart.)

Gemini Rising/ House 01: Radical reconsideration of what health and well-being mean in your specific body, relationships, and your experience of the world. Major changes or experimentation with personal style, gender presentation, or name. Refusal to live your life on anyone else’s terms.

Taurus Rising / House 02: Swinging of the financial pendulum, for better or worse, resulting in a major reevaluation of what it means to be resourced and how you make decisions in managing what's yours. Voluntary or involuntary changes in diet.

Aries Rising / House 03: Experiments involving writing, self-expression, or approach to daily routine. Ruptures in or overhauls of relationships with siblings or neighbors.

Pisces Rising / House 04: Reworking relationship dynamics with parents or within the family/place of origin. Instability within or renovation to your home or living situation.

Aquarius Rising / House 05: Breaking out of a creative rut. Pursuit of sexual awakening or experimentation. Surprise pregnancy or new dynamics in parenting or with children and youth in your life.

Capricorn Rising / House 06: Inconsistent or hectic working environments, ruptures or sudden shifts in relationships with coworkers, and/or workplace strikes. Sudden onset or flare-up of illness(es).

Sagittarius Rising / House 07: Reworking expectations and agreements in romantic and business partnerships. Sudden breakups or breakthroughs in approach to committed relationships and intimacy.

Scorpio Rising / House 08: Revolutionizing the role mutual aid plays in your life. Tax time surprises. Messiness or revision involving a probate issue or an inheritance. A debt strike (or jubilee!)

Libra Rising / House 09: Involvement with fringe religious movements. Legal drama. Radical change in political or spiritual beliefs.

Virgo Rising / House 10: Reimagining your participation in an industry or trade. Sudden departure of a boss, mentor, or board of directors. Restructured relationship with mothers or mother figures.

Leo Rising / House 11: Push toward collective organizing. Suddenly joining or leaving friend groups or professional associations/networks. Sudden gains or losses from a business you own or that pays you.

Cancer Rising / House 12: “Out-of-nowhere” revelations related to a personal blind spot or vulnerable secret. Revolutionary action taken with/for those who are socially, financially, or politically marginalized.

One final note, for now: people who were born with Uranus in Sagittarius will experience a once-in-lifetime transit as Uranus moves through Gemini, their Uranus opposition. This tends to be a moment of massive personal upheaval and change to propel your life in a direction that, perhaps, has been calling to you for quite some time. It can be hectic but also extremely rewarding. It's one of my favorite transits to guide clients through. So, if you've got natal Uranus in Sag (i.e. you were born between February 17, 1981 - March 20, 1981, November 16, 1981 - February 14, 1988, or May 26, 1988 - December 2, 1988) reach out for a Birth Chart Reading! We'll talk about what's coming up for you during this cycle and strategize some ways through it together. ♡
